Employers and hiring managers are under tremendous pressure to make good hiring decisions. With hundreds of resumes for each position, that’s becoming an increasingly more difficult proposition.

It is essential for a jobseeker in today’s market to position themselves as someone who seeks opportunities to improve the business, whether in your area of expertise or not.

Don’t kid yourself, there are LOTS of great candidates for each job in today’s market. What you need to do is show a hiring manager that you’re MORE than a great candidate. Show them that you have a positive, can-do attitude, that you constantly seek to innovate and improve processes and that you are willing to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty…whether it’s in your job description or not.

Don’t be afraid to include slightly out-of-the-box info on your resume. If you are in IT and helped HR with a project that added value to the overall business, include it! That’s the kind of added info that will help set you apart in an incredibly challenging job market.
